Underground mining is typically used to get higher concentrations of uranium that are too deep to get from open-pit mining. They drill ore, and then blast it to create debris (of uranium) which is then transported to the surface.
Pros:
Cons:
Pros:
- Has a very small waste footprint
- Wastes less rock
- Advances in mining technology have made it safer to mine and makes radiation issues highly unlikely
Cons:
- VERY expensive
- It could seriously impact local aquifers
- Poor ventilation in mine, which could be potentially fatal to miner's health
